Problems with our downstream partners can have a profound impact on your donations, especially during service times and other times when transaction volumes are at their peak.
Where problems can occur
There are two points in our payment processing where outages can occur. They are our Tokenization partner and the Payment gateways.
Our Tokenization partner allows us to securely store cards and use them to transact against the payment gateways. Payment methods tokenized by our partner are stored with the partner, allowing us to independently store card information and then pass that card to the payment gateways.
Payment gateways are where your merchant accounts are created. A payment processed through a gateway will be designated to your merchant account, which will in turn deposit the funds into the bank account you've elected to receive donations.
What Assured Payments does
Assured Payments is made to cope with both the above scenarios.
If we experience an outage at our Tokenization partner: Because the Payment gateways are downstream of this, no transactions are able to be processed. All payment requests made by users who have a previously stored (tokenized) card will be held in a queue and processed later once our partner is back online.
If we experience an outage at a gateway. We will queue payments for just that one gateway and transactions made through other gateways will be processed as normal. All payments held in the queue are processed later once we have confirmed that the affected gateway is back online.
If you have other questions you may find an answer on our Assured Payments FAQ.
