We are pleased to announce that you will be able to generate and send IRS-compliant giving statements in Pushpay, by the end of this year. All contributions recorded or processed in Pushpay will be listed in individual giving statements. Giving statements will include gifts donated digitally through web, kiosk, Pushpay app, or echurch app. They will also include all gifts that have been entered into Gift Entry as well as Check Deposit and Transaction Import.
What to expect:
Giving statements will list all tax-deductible transactions that have been recorded in Pushpay. The statements will be formatted to meet IRS requirements for charitable contribution receipts. Your organization will be shown as the recipient of contributions on the giving statements which will be sent digitally to donors by email through Pushpay.

- When is it going to be available?
The ability to generate complete Giving Statements will be available by January 10, in time for you to prepare your statements for the 2017 financial year. However, you are able to complete any of the steps to Prepare for Giving Statements at any time.
- How does it work?
Giving Statements will be generated and sent in 5 easy steps. You can read more about how to prepare and send your statements in the Giving Statements tab of our platform.
- What do you mean by “sent digitally to donors by email through Pushpay”?
Legally, the IRS only requires that you send your donors a properly formatted Giving Statement. Whether you send that physically or digitally (by email) is up to you (see IRS publication 1771 here). We have made this process easy for you, by enabling you to deliver compliant statements via email for all donors that have an email address listed within Pushpay.
- What if a donor’s email address is not in the admin portal?
You will be able to add an email address to their profile in our system. If you do not have an email address, you will be able to print out their giving statement and deliver it in person or through the mail.
- What if I want to keep a copy for our organization’s records?
Our system will keep a record of all statements prepared and generated in the portal. These statements will be assigned to an individual community member, and will be downloadable if necessary. In addition, after generating your statements you will have the option to download all of them in bulk.
- What happens if members have questions about their Giving Statements?
Emails will be sent from Pushpay, but all replies will be forwarded to the login email address of the administrator that generated and sent the Giving Statements. Find out more on how to change your login email address.
- What will Giving Statements look like?
Giving Statements will include all necessary information for notifying recipients of charitable giving. And in the true Pushpay style, your statements will not only be compliant, but beautiful as well.
- Will I be able to customize Giving Statements?
Giving Statements emails will include a customizable message, up to 1200 characters. You can use this space to thank your givers, discuss projects or funds from the previous year, or cast vision for the year ahead.
- Why can't I see the Giving Statements tab in my Admin Portal?
At this time, the ability to view the Giving Statements feature is available for churches located in the US. If you are a church outside the US, or a non-profit organization and would like this feature, we'd like to invite you to join our user feedback group.
- Once I've generated the Giving Statements, can I download all of them for safe-keeping?
Yes, you will have the option to download all the statements in bulk after generating them.
- Will I be notified of any Statements that aren't successfully delivered or that 'bounceback'?
Pushpay does not currently support notifications of failed deliveries, so you'll want to make sure that you notify your donors to check their email inboxes to find the statements. If they are unable to locate a sent statement, you can resend it or print it and deliver is physically to the donor.
- Is it possible to import all historical giving information into Pushpay?
Yes, can use the Transaction Import feature to import historical giving information into Pushpay. Alternatively you can manually record these transactions through Gift Entry.
- How does the process work if I have multiple campuses?
Giving statements will be generated at the organization level. This means your organization only has to go through the Giving Statements process once.
- Is it possible for multiple people to work on preparing statements at the same time?
Multiple administrators can view the giving statement platform. Only one admin is able to edit the custom message or generate statements at the same time to avoid data syncing issues and because statements can be mass generated only once. Statements can be generated individually if revisions have occurred.
- How will you be able to tell which gifts are tax deductible?
We have it covered with a feature called Funds! Find out more about how you can manage the tax deductible status of your funds.
- What if some of our payments/gifts are not tax deductible?
You will need to make sure any transactions where goods or services were exchanged are categorized as a non-tax deductible fund. Though our system supports the ability to choose whether a transaction is tax deductible or not, we do not support quid pro quo gifts.
- What if I have multiple donors that have donated as a family?
We suggest that individual donors remain their own community member. If a donor has multiple Pushpay accounts, they can be merged into a Community Member using the Community Member management tools. Click here for more information.
- What if I have statements that are missing Emails or Addresses?
We have provided you with the ability to add emails and addresses for your donors if they are missing. This can be done in the Community Members section. Click here for more information.
- What about gifts that were given through a different giving service, or through our church management system?
If all giving for this year is not recorded in Pushpay, your Giving Statements will be missing any donations that occurred outside of the platform. You can use the Transaction Import feature to import this information into Pushpay. You can also manually enter transactions through our Gift Entry feature.
- What if I have a two-way integration with CCB?
At this stage we are not supporting statements to be created with CCB transactions, as they are in a different format from the one our system requires.
- How should I handle donations that were made prior to when I started using Pushpay?
As above, your Giving Statements will be missing any donations that occurred outside of the platform. For the future, we have made it easy to record all gifts, including cash and check, through our Gift Entry feature. Using Gift Entry ensures that all gifts are recorded in one place, allowing you to send one statement that includes a donor's entire giving history.
